"Anyone wishing to study medicine must master the art of massage." - Hippocrates

Massage is an investment in your health. Choose wisely.

Relaxation Massage (Swedish massage): Relaxation massage is a flowing full-body massage that is ideal for overall stress relief and general body relaxation. Gentle to firm pressure is used to ease tension and tightness.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage: A light and gentle form of massage therapy, lymphatic drainage massage can reduce swelling post-surgically and improve circulation throughout the lymphatic system for optimizing immune function. Erin specializes in performing lymphatic drainage massage following cosmetic surgery and other surgical procedures.

Therapeutic or Medical Massage: The purpose of medical massage is to specifically address and provide relief for a medical condition diagnosed by a physician or other health care professional. Techniques such as myofascial release, trigger point therapy, deep tissue techniques, scar tissue/cross friction massage, muscle energy techniques, lymphatic drainage, and stretching may be performed. Use of the percussion gun or adding cupping can also be beneficial to achieve the desire results. Medical massage is an outcome-based treatment and will typically require regular visits in order to achieve lasting results or assist in managing symptoms. As a physical therapist, Erin specializes in medical massage for conditions such as low back and neck pain, postural dysfunction, plantar fasciitis, post surgical care and overuse injuries of the upper and lower extremities.

Rehabilitative Massage: Rehabilitative massage is performed in conjunction with, and during the course of physical therapy treatment, to augment the benefits of physical therapy and accelerate healing and recovery time. This translates to both greater patient satisfaction as well as improved functional outcomes. As a physical therapist herself, Erin experienced first-hand how impactful it was to her patients’ recoveries when they were able to incorporate quality massage therapy sessions into the course of their P.T. treatment. She noticed how it enhanced their flexibility, decreased muscle soreness, increased joint range of motion, and reduced their pain levels which ultimately led to quicker physical improvements. This type of session can be booked under the Therapeutic Massage category.

Deep Tissue Massage: Deep tissue massage is often misunderstood. It does not imply using uncomfortable or painful massage techniques, nor does it mean using a steady deep pressure throughout the entire length of a regular full-body massage. What deep tissues massage really involves is a therapist taking their time to get to the deepest layers of muscles which are not normally treated during a more superficial massage. This type of bodywork is most appropriate for clients with chronic muscle problems or who require extra attention in one or two areas of the body. In its essence, deep tissue massage involves using slow strokes, firm pressure, and adequate time in a certain area of the body. For this reason, and for the greatest benefits for her client, Erin prefers to concentrate on either the upper or lower half of the body during the 60-minute session or 90-minutes for the entire body.

As an example, a client who experiences low back pain would benefit from a 60-minute deep tissue massage for the back and lower half of the body which would allow extra time and focus work on the torso, hip region, and the legs. An upper body deep tissue massage would be highly beneficial for a client who experiences neck pain and stiffness, headaches, or chronic muscular tension in the shoulder region.

If needed, the vibration or percussion gun and/or cupping can be used to further improve tissue mobility.

Sports Massage: Sports massage is a great option not only for athletes to enhance performance or improve recovery time, but for those clients with a repetitive use injury in order to relieve pain and muscular tightness while improving joint flexibility. Passive stretching is usually incorporated into sports massage along with alternating deep pressure and soothing massage strokes. Erin can tailor the massage to the area of the body that needs the most attention, or the muscles involved with the sport or activity performed. The vibration or percussion gun may be used to further loosen adhesions and decrease tightness.
